Maat's Challenge

Think you can take on the master? Seek out Maat's Echo in Ru'Lude Gardens and pay your Infamy for a chance to fight a level-250 incarnation of Maat in the very arena where the Genkai trials once took place — Waughroon Shrine. Win, and there's a chance he'll leave behind something that could change the outcome of your next augment.

Summary

Talk to Maat's Echo in Ru'Lude Gardens, pay 150 Infamy, and you'll be teleported to Waughroon Shrine to face a level-250 Maat — now the single hardest fight on the server, tuned above the endgame Ascension bosses. Defeat him for a 25% chance at a Maat's Blessing — an item that guarantees your next augment at the Augment Moogle will be a critical. He also has a 0.5% chance to drop a Prime Voucher (Prime Weapon Trial 3).

Where to find the NPC

Maat's Echo stands near the original Maat NPC in Ru'Lude Gardens, just to the side of the familiar old sage. Look for the gold star icon.

How it works

  1. Talk to Maat's Echo and accept the challenge.
  2. The cost is 150 Infamy. If your Infamy is short, come back when you've earned more.
  3. You're immediately transported to Waughroon Shrine — the very battlefield where Genkai trials were once decided.
  4. Maat appears before you at level 250 with a stat block tuned above our toughest Ascension boss: brutal melee, accuracy that punches through tank gear, and Chainspell nukes that delete the careless — come prepared.
  5. On death, Maat has a 25% chance to drop Maat's Blessing.

Bring a crowd

Every challenger gets their own Maat, claim-locked to them — many people can fight in the shrine at the same time without interfering. Your Maat is yours alone; no one else can tag it, steal it, or help kill it. If you leave or die, your Maat despawns on its own after about 45 seconds.

The reward: Maat's Blessing

Maat's Blessing is a rare, EX item — it cannot be auctioned, traded, or stored.

When you hold Maat's Blessing in your inventory and trade gear + catalysts to the Augment Moogle, your augment is guaranteed to be a critical — the 2× multiplier applies automatically, no roll required.

The item is consumed on success. It is not consumed if the augment fails (e.g. you cancel, or your inventory is full).

How critical augments work

A critical augment doubles the exdata boost applied to every catalyst in that trade. Normally this relies on your Augment Sage rank and a random roll — Maat's Blessing bypasses that entirely. See Augment Moogle and Augment Sage for the full system details.

Tips

  • Come geared. Maat carries an explicit Lv250 stat block cranked above the endgame Ascension bosses — his attacks, spell damage, and HP all reflect it. This is not a casual fight.
  • Watch your MP. Maat's RDM incarnation uses Chainspell + high-tier nukes. Magic defense, Stoneskin, and Utsusemi all help buy time.
  • You keep the Infamy on his death. Only the entry fee is spent; you don't lose more if you die.
  • If you die or leave without killing him, your Maat despawns after a short lull. The 150 Infamy entry cost is still spent — don't go in unprepared.
  • Stack up before augmenting. Maat's Blessing lasts indefinitely while held. You can earn multiple blessings before redeeming them, but the item is RARE so you can only hold one at a time.
